Kinja'd!!!

I’m toying with the idea of a late-model Jag XJ to replace my commuter. I see that the cars past warranty coverage have mostly depreciated to hell.

Anyone have experience with these lavish cruise missiles? What’s the expected long-term reliability of the 3.0 Supercharged, the 5.0, and the rest of the car?

Thanks in advance!

Oooof, I can’t speak to first model year reliability, but I have been using one for engineering at our R&D office in Portland. If you have the means, I would highly recommend it.

It is superbly quiet and comfortable in traffic and that 5.0 makes it move when you’re looking to get somewhere.

My brother-in-law’s wife’s sister’s husband drives an XJL of this generation. He’s had it for at least 3-4 years now. Haven’t heard many specifics with regard to reliability but he’s often driven it from Atlanta to Chicago and/or Milwaukee.

Chan is a Ferrari owner, he’s probably come to accept that possibility by now.

Oh, I have a write up for you which will post this weekend with my thoughts (they should sort of cover anything updated after 2010)! Ill say this, you need the warranty, make sure you like the way it drives without placing it into dynamic mode, and have another source for transportation. They arent made to be the ONLY car even when brand new, they are the occasional car just like anything else upmarket.

I say all cars are great as long as you live with them the way they were intended to be lived with. Maintenance is the same as anything German but the repairs are very British (unpredictable even after repair).
